Trade and Investment cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Kingdom of the Netherlands

Trade in goods

The trade turnover between Belarus and the Netherlands amounted to USD 1405.0 million in 2017.

The Belarusian exports in goods to the Netherlands equaled to USD 1105.6 million in 2017. The main Belarusian export items were as follows: oil and chemical products, metal products, polyamide and linen yarns, hand saws and blades for saws, timber products and furniture, tires and rubber products, casein, glass fiber, other industrial and agricultural products.

Imports from the Netherlands to Belarus amounted to USD 300.2 million in 2017. The main imports from the Netherlands to Belarus were as follows: tractors and trucks, vaccines and blood, agricultural equipment, animal feeding, pharmaceuticals, polymers of ethylene, clothing, flowers, vegetables and other products.

In January-October 2018 the trade turnover between Belarus and the Netherlands equaled to USD 1.025 billion (96.8% to January-October 2017). The Belarusian exports in goods to the Netherlands equaled to USD 775.9 million (89.1%). Imports from the Netherlands to Belarus amounted to USD 249.1 million (146.8%). Trade surplus for Belarus amounted to USD 526.8 million.

 Trade in services

The volume of trade in services between Belarus and the Netherlands amounted to USD 139.8 million in 2017.

In 2017 the Belarusian exports of services to the Netherlands amounted to USD 99.3 million (120.3% to 2016). Among them the major ones are: transport, telecommunication, ICT, business, and financial services.

The volume of imports of services from the Netherlands to Belarus amounted to USD 40.5 million (132.0% to 2016) in 2017. Among them the major ones are: transport, business, ICT, telecommunication, financial and tourism services.

In January-September 2018 the Belarusian exports of services to the Netherlands amounted to USD 82.5 million (115.5% to January-September 2017). The volume of imports of services from the Netherlands to Belarus in January-September 2018 amounted to USD 30.9 million (112.8% to January-September 2017).

Investment cooperation

In 2017 the total amount of Dutch investments to the Belarusian economy reached USD 243.9 million (213,6% to 2016). The amount of the Dutch FDI amounted to USD 85.5 million (83,1%).
The Netherlands took the sixth place among Belarus credit and investment partners after the Russian Federation, Cyprus, Latvia, China and Poland.

In January-September 2018 the Dutch FDI amounted to USD 59.4 million. Based on this indicator the Netherlands took the tenth place after the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, Cyprus, Ukraine, Poland, China, Lithuania, Germany and Latvia.

As of January 1, 2018, there are 114 entities registered in the Republic of Belarus with the participation of the Dutch capital (39 are joint ventures, 75 are foreign representative offices), the share of Dutch investors in the statutory funds of these organizations is USD 269.3 million. As of January 1, 2018 the total amount of cumulative foreign investments from the Netherlands in Belarus amounted to USD 810.6 million (6th place after the Russian Federation, Cyprus, the United Kingdom and Turkey).

The main areas of activities of the joint and foreign enterprises established in Belarus with participation of the Dutch companies are: agriculture and food processing, beer production, textiles and clothing, metal processing, pharmaceuticals, development of IT products, freight and logistics services, real estate and others.
